One of my last projects for Droga5 was to write for CoverGirl’s #IAmWhatIMakeUp campaign.

We needed to modernize the brand while playing within the confines of the beauty world (i.e. we still needed to show close-ups of makeup and women in mirrors). I wrote a few spots which were produced after I left. This one, featuring Issa Rae, is my favorite.

I could think of no better woman to write into this campaign than Issa Rae, who kicks off her HBO show "Insecure" with hilarious pep talks to herself in the mirror.

This spot helped secure Issa's place as a CoverGirl, allowing millions of women to see broader representation in the beauty world.
